Permits & Applications

Call 811

Homeowners and contractors must call 8-1-1 at least three business days before starting any digging or excavation project, as required by law. More information can be found on the PA One Call's website

Why a Permit?

Before initiating any home project, such as electrical work, pool construction, or adding a deck or extension, it's important to secure the appropriate permits. These permits are essential to comply with the township's regulations and safety standards, mitigating potential legal complications and ensuring the project meets all necessary requirements. Obtaining permits is a crucial step to ensure a smooth and lawful progression of your project, safeguarding your investment and the integrity of your property and community.

Below are the permits required prior to starting any project. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Permit Administrator, Kimberly Hill, at 610-565-4944 or khill@upperprovidence.org.

Payment is required at the time of submission by check or cash payable to Upper Providence Township.

2026 Fee Schedule

Use & Occupancy (U&O)

U&O regulations usually require the seller of a property to pay a fee of $150 (residential) or $200 (commercial) and allow a township official to inspect the property. The inspection ensures that the property complies with the township's housing codes and ordinances and that all the necessary permits have been filed. The inspection—also referred to as a resale inspection—must be completed within a limited timeframe. A U&O certificate or occupancy permit is then issued.

Please submit the application a minimum of 3 weeks prior to settlement for sufficient processing time.
After submitting the application and payment to Upper Providence Township, call Linn Architects at 610-566-7044 to schedule the inspection.
