[ARCHIVED] Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events

Delaware County will host four Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Events in 2025. These events provide a safe and responsible way to dispose of hazardous materials that cannot go in the regular trash, such as flammables, toxic chemicals, pesticides, caustics, and mercury-containing devices.

Residents must register in advance and bring a printed or digital ticket to attend. Events will take place rain or shine at the following locations:

  • Saturday, April 12 – Emergency Services Training Center, Sharon Hill
  • Saturday, May 10 – Rose Tree Park, Media
  • Saturday, September 6 – Emergency Services Training Center, Sharon Hill
  • Saturday, October 11 – Upper Chichester Municipal Building, Upper Chichester

Acceptable HHW

Flammables:

  • Oil-based paint
  • Oil-based sealers
  • Paint thinner
  • Gasoline
  • Kerosene
  • Gas/oil mixture
  • Heating/motor oil
  • Small propane cylinders

Toxics:

  • Pool chemicals
  • Rust/paint remover
  • Antifreeze
  • Herbicides
  • Pesticides
  • Lawn chemicals

Caustics:

  • Cleaners/solvents

Batteries (Non-Alkaline Only):

  • Lead acid batteries
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Lithium batteries

Mercury-Containing Devices:

  • Mercury thermostats
  • Mercury thermometers
  • Fluorescent tubes (CFLs can also be recycled at Lowe's or Home Depot)

Unacceptable Items:

  • Electronics (no TVs, computers, etc.)
  • Smoke detectors (dispose of in household trash)
  • Latex paint (let dry and dispose of with curbside trash)
  • Asbestos
  • Explosives
  • Gas or large propane cylinders
  • PCB-containing materials
  • 50-gallon drums (household use only for 5-gallon drums)
  • Pressurized CFCs (e.g., freon containers)
  • Tires
  • Medical waste
