As of December 2024, UPT is officially a Bird Town Pennsylvania (BTP).
BTP collaborates with local municipalities to foster conservation efforts that benefit birds, wildlife, and people while promoting a healthier, more sustainable environment.
UPT has achieved the Green Level of the program and is already on track to level up by the end of the first year. Initiatives like establishing a Bee City Committee, planning a Shade Tree Commission, and launching a Sustainability Task Force are making a big difference in our community.
Learn more about BTP in this presentation.
In July 2024, UPT became an affiliate of Bee City USA, joining numerous cities and campuses across the nation in enhancing landscapes for pollinators. Bee City USA aims to create healthy habitats rich in native plants and free of insecticides. Pollinators like bumble bees, honey bees, butterflies, and many others play a crucial role in the reproduction of almost 90% of the world’s flowering plant species and one in every three bites of food we consume.
