Upper Providence Township Council is pleased to announce that the Township has been awarded a $604,064 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Multimodal Transportation Fund to support several key pedestrian safety improvements along Route 252 and surrounding intersections.
The grant funding will be used to:
Construct new sidewalks along Route 252 from Stephenson’s Garage to the new Sunoco
Install ADA-compliant curb ramps
Install a pedestrian road crossing Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon at the intersection of North Providence Road and School Lane
These improvements are part of the Township’s ongoing efforts to create safer, more accessible, and more walkable roadways for residents and visitors.
"Pedestrian safety has been a priority of mine and of Township Council," said Elgin Akarsoy, 4th District Council person. “This infrastructure project will be another step forward in making Upper Providence a safe and walkable community for all residents.”
Township Council also extends its sincere thanks to Rep. Jennifer O’Mara and Sen. Tim Kearney for their support of the Township’s grant application and continued advocacy for local infrastructure improvements.
