On Saturday, December 9th, Phyllis’ family, children, grandchildren and neighbors surprised her with a 100th birthday party celebration. The township was able to secure a few police vehicles and Rose Tree Fire trucks to come down her street and join in on the festivities. Elgin Akarsoy, Upper Providence Township Chair, was also present to congratulate her on behalf of Upper Providence Township.
Phyllis is a military veteran who served in WWII as a nurse, where she met her husband who came to the hospital due to an injury. A representative from the Delaware County Veterans Association stopped by the celebration to wish her a happy birthday and thank her for her services.
Phyllis has been a resident of Upper Providence Township for nearly 70 years. She moved to Upper Providence Township in the early 1950’s looking for a larger home from their growing damily. Phyllis stayed in Upper Providence for many years because of how nice the community is and how close it is to Media Borough with all the small business shops. The community spent all of the holidays together including 4th of July and Labor Day parties. Growing up Phyllis was an active person who enjoyed playing lots of tennis, hiking, being outdoors and being on her family’s sunfish sailboat.
Happy 100th Birthday Phyllis! We thank you for your service and being great member of our community!
