Corporal Scott Ely has served the Upper Providence Township PD since 2015. Prior to starting with the Upper Providence Township PD, he worked for Brookhaven Borough PD since 1996.
Corporal Ely was inspired to become a police officer because his grandfather was a police officer in Philadelphia for thirty-five years and he has always viewed law enforcement as a rewarding career. In his younger years, he also enjoyed service-oriented activities while involved in scouting and the local church. Much of a police officer’s duties are associated with service to the community.
Being a police officer is appealing to Corporal Ely because you never know what to expect during any given shift. Additionally, it is satisfying assisting individuals in resolving issues they encounter throughout their lives.
He enjoys meeting and interacting with residents of Upper Providence Township on a daily basis. "Our PD is very proactive and the officers are extremely dedicated to the community to which we serve", Scott said.
Corporal Ely says one of his more gratifying moments as a police officer occurred when he rescued two elderly individuals from a house fire.
When he's not working, Scott enjoy spending time with his wife, two children, and dogs. He stays active through hunting, fishing, camping, playing soccer, and coaching a travel baseball team.
