AQUA Water Main Replacements

October 9, 2018

Dear Customer,

Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. (Aqua) will be replacing the existing 6-inch AC water mains on the following street(s) in Upper Providence Township, Delaware County as part of our ongoing infrastructure improvement program.

  • Gordon Drive from Appletree Drive to Providence Road
  • Colt Road from Steeplechase Drive to Woodhill Lane
  • Woodhill Lane from Colt Road to Davis Drive
  • Davis Drive from Gordon Drive to house # 2131 Davis Drive 300’ east of Woodhill Lane

The new main will increase service reliability, reduce the potential for discolored water and improve firefighting capabilities in the area. The project is scheduled to begin the week of October 22, 2018, with the installation of 5,500 feet of 6-and 8-inch ductile iron mains; the installation phase is expected to be completed early 2019. After final job completion, trench restoration will begin in the spring of 2019.  Aqua will have an inspector on-site each day to track progress and answer any questions you may have.

Following the installation of the new water main, the new main will be flushed, chlorinated and tested for water quality before being placed into service. During the chlorination/testing phase, activity on the job site will be limited. Once the water quality testing has been completed, we will transfer each water service and fire hydrant onto the new main. All final connections to side streets will be performed and abandonment of the old main will take place. It is important to note, the trench will be covered with temporary black-top at the end of each work day.

Daily construction typically takes place between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. During construction we will provide limited access for emergencies, mail and trash services.  Also during construction, residents will have reliable access to their properties.  However, at times we may need to re-route residents from alternate directions due to changing work zones. We will notify customers 24 hours in advance of any scheduled shutdown of our main or interruptions of water service. Please keep in mind, as with any construction project, emergency shutdowns may be necessary. With any shutdown, it is our goal to restore service to our customers as soon as possible.

If it is determined that an Aqua-owned lead service line feeds your property, Aqua will replace it during the project.  If you own a lead service line, we encourage you to replace it as soon as possible.  Aqua will provide you with instructions for flushing your plumbing and will contact you within 1-2 business days to arrange for water testing if a lead service line is encountered.

If you have any questions regarding the project, please contact us at 610.328.7713. Should you have a non-construction related emergency, including a water quality issue, please call our Customer Service Department or after-hours control center at 877.987.2782.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation for the duration of this construction project. It is critical we continue to make important upgrades and improvements to our water distribution system so we can provide reliable service and high-quality water to your homes and businesses.
